5 Quotes and Bible verses that uplift me when I'm feeling down

When I feel sad or blue, I read these quotes or bible verses to uplift my spirit and get encouragement to push on and never give up.

I hope that they help you too.

1. 'I am determined to be cheerful and happy in whatever situation I may find myself. For I have learned that the greater part of our misery or unhappiness is determined not by our circumstance but by our disposition'
- Martha Washington
This quote remind me to smile and be happy no matter what is happening to me. It reminds me that I control my happiness (not people or money or my work). So whether I have a bad day at work, or I'm broke or I get an annoying phone call, I'm determined to be cheerful and happy in whatever situation I may find myself.
2. 'For I know the plans I have for you' says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope'
- Jeremiah 29:11 NLT
There are some days when the future doesn't look so bright, when I wonder if I'll become what I want to be in 5, 10 or 20 years.  Days when I think it's taking too long for dreams to come through. Then I remember God has the master plan and it's all for my good. I tell myself, 'Fehintola, God has got you. Trust Him'
3. 'My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts' says the Lord. 'And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth, they cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with my word. I send it out and it always produce fruit. It will accomplish all I wan it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it'
- Isaiah 55: 8-11 NLT
Have you ever thought 'why is it taking God so long to give me what I desperately want?' I think about that almost all the time and when I do, this bible verse keeps my heart.

4. The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts; therefore guard accordingly
- Marcus Aurelius
This quote is good advice. I know it may be difficult to think positive thoughts 24/7 with all the bad news we hear and see every day but it is something we should all aspire to and work on. For what we think affects how we feel and in turn that affects our mood and disposition.
5. 'Here's a really important point to keep in mind: if you're single today you are not missing out on anything that goes on into eternity. Marriage is only for this life (Matthew 22:30). It is a gift that ends in death as do the righteous boundaries surrounding sexual activity that we find in Scripture. If you are single, you have not been overlooked for the most important gift; you already have all that it points to in the mystery of Christ and his church. Wrap your mind around this as the 'true north' in your life'
- A part of an article on the Today's Christian Woman website
The gist is 'I want to marry'. However, marriage seems to evade me at every turn. And I sometimes feel like I'm missing something very special.
So when I look around me and see (almost) all my friends married with children or engaged to be married or a cute couple on social media, I find great comfort in this: Marriage is for this life, a gift that ends in death as do the righteous boundaries surrounding sexual activity.
