The Christmas Tag

Eyin temi,

Christmas is just 4 days away. If you read my previous post 'My Christmas Wishlist', you'll know all the things I want for Christmas. I'm travelling to Lagos to spend time with my siblings and some friends. My friends at Lemony Touch Event Management (@lemonytouch on Instagram) are having their annual charity event tagged 'Touch a life, make a difference' at the Oko-Agbon community in Lagos on the 23rd and 24th December, 2017 and I'm going to be there. We'll be sharing gifts to the children, teaching skills to the women and helping clean the community. So I'm inviting you my dear friends to come and be a part of this great cause.

Today's post is a tag, The Christmas Tag. I found the question here and thought it would be fun to answer them so without further ado, let's get to it.

1. What is your favourite Christmas film?
Home Alone. It was so much fun watching this film as a kid. I laughed my head off. I wished I could play those pranks on my older siblings. And I just couldn't understand how they forgot him at home.

2. Have you ever had a white Christmas?
No. I live in Nigeria and it doesn't snow here.

3. Where do you usually spend your holidays?
My sisters and I
My friend and I at Agodi Gardens during the
holiday
I spend my holidays with family and/or friends. When I was a little girl, my dad would take me and my older siblings to visit our grandparents for the holidays. We stopped when my dad died and started our own tradition of spending the holidays together at home. Then we grew older and everyone does their own thing now. Two years now, I have stayed back in Ibadan to spend Christmas with friends.

4. What is your favourite Christmas Song?
I don't have a favourite Christmas song. Christmas songs are seasonal so I usually forget about them once the holiday is over.

5. Do you open any presents on Christmas eve?
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!! I'm an original Nigerian girl from an original Nigeria home. No time for all that!!! The gift I can remember getting as a little girl was new clothes and shoe and that's because my mum wants us looking shiny to church for Thanksgiving service. Even if my dad brought any gifts home, they were not wrapped. As I wrote earlier, NO TIME!!! lol

6. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer?
No, I can't. We have Father Christmas here and he comes from Rome on an aeroplane (I almost passed out laughing the first time I heard this on the radio here in Ibadan. I was like 'which Father Christmas is coming from Rome? Did he relocate from the North Pole?' lol.

7. What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most this year?
Endless supply of food and drinks. It's a tradition here in Nigeria to send food to your neighbours and friends. There is always food in any home you visit and not just the normal menu but people go all out with their menus. So I'm looking forward to eating to my heart and belly's content 😁

8. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
I don't have a Christmas tree. I didn't grow up with one in the house and I think it just takes up space. Plus it's a huge fire hazard.

9. What is your all time favourite holiday food/sweet treats?
I'm a Nigerian girl. It's rice and chicken. All the mummies in Nigeria must have had a secret meeting in an undisclosed location to decide that the main menu for the holiday is rice and chicken. So I like fried rice and chicken with salad and small chops and ice-cream with cookies and grilled catfish and orange juice and sweet white wine... I can hear someone shouting 'Tola, For Food Only!!!'
Thank you 😛😜

10. Be honest: do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?
I love both. I love the smile I put on people's face when I give them a gift and I also love receiving too. We did Secret Santa at work and tomorrow (22nd) is the exchange of gift, I'm excited to give the person I picked her gift while wondering what I would receive.

11. What is the best Christmas gift I have ever received?
I can't remember.

12. What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday?
Source
Anywhere that Christmas is heavily themed. I would love to visit the Rockefeller Center in New York because of the Christmas tree lighting. I love Christmas lights and decorations not so much the tree. I would love to see it's beauty at night.

13. Are you a pro-present wrapper  or do you fail miserably?
I fail miserably. I can't wrap to save myself. I usually ask shop attendants help me wrap presents and some store would wrap for you for free if you buy the gift from them or for a token fee if you buy it elsewhere.

14. Most memorable holiday moments
All the holidays that had my dad in it.

15. When did you realize the truth about Santa?
Santa Claus is not a Nigerian tradition. So you won't find the pretense in homes here except if the family has lived abroad and then relocated here. The first I heard of Santa Claus was on television not from my parents or siblings and I saw the whole set up; the pretense and all. Plus my parents don't have time to be lying to a child that one fat man in a red suit is bringing gifts for you if you're nice and well-behaved. NO TIME!!! You just have to be well-behaved or...(if you're Nigerian, you understand the 'or')

16. Do you make New Years Resolutions?
Yes I make New Years Resolutions. Check out my post on my 2018 goals (click here to read)

17. What makes the holiday special to you?
The food and activities. There is always some where to go, someone to visit who is offering food and drinks. When you are a adult, you won't pass up an opportunity for free food and drinks. I'm kidding, lol. I just love Christmas and the story of Jesus. It's a time of giving and receiving and sharing and loving and been merry and thankful.

And that's the end of my Christmas tag. Hope you enjoyed it. If you're in Lagos, come and hangout with me and Lemony Touch at the Oko-Agbon community.

I wish you a Merry Christmas

xoxo...Fehintola
